Ohio
The village of Ohio, at the corner of Rts. 26 and 92, lies along the Reagan Trail, running from Dixon to Eureka, Illinois and was a place where Ronald Reagan and his brother Neil thumbed rides north when commuting from Eureka college to Reagan's boyhood home in Dixon. There are signs to Reagan's birthplace (Tampico) and boyhood home (Dixon).
Two miles northwest of Ohio lies the marker for the Dad Joe Smith Tavern, where President Lincoln reportedly stayed when traveling between Springfield and Galena, Illinois. Don't miss the Ol' Fashioned Threshun' Days celebration in July. Its a fun family experience with many demonstrations of how things were done "in the old days". There are experienced old-timers to answer questions about the process being demonstrated. There is often a tractor pull as part of the festivities. Foodstands are on hand.
Ohio is home to the famous still family-owned Sisler's Ice Cream. A local favorite for almost 100 years (in it's third generation!). Sisler's Ice Cream is still handpacked, comes in a wide variety of taste tempting flavors, and can be found throughout Bureau County in stores and as part of area celebrations and festivals. Ask for it by name! Their ice machines and ice products are found at most food markets throughout Bureau County.
